History of KODAK Cameras Below is a table from the Kodak web site showing the history of Kodak's cameras. In the March 12th Gazette article it says G. E. Kincaid was "carrying a fine camera, with which he secured over 700 views of the river and canyons which were unsurpassed" and in the April 5th article it says "During that trip I went back several hundred feet along the main passage till I came to the crypt in which I discovered the mummies. One of these I stood up and photographed by flashlight." When I first read these references I assumed that Kincaid may have been hauling around a huge old plate camera of the classic type we are used to seeing in depictions of historical photography, (the photographer standing under the cloth cover with a large camera supported on legs with a large photo plate etc.) I could not imagine him climbing the high cliffs and slopes of the Grand Canyon, lugging that huge camera around. A little research brought me to the diagram below which shows several models around the years Kincaid made his trip (1908). As you can see there were several portable size models available, including even "folding pocket models". So Kincaid at least had several pocket portable Kodak model cameras available to use on his trip and such a camera would have been much easier to carry on his expedition, up and down steep country than a huge old plate model. - Jack Andrews copyright 2001 may be only used in it's entirety with this notice clearly visible.   Eastman Kodak No. 4 Folding Pocket Kodak, 1907-1915 ...the No. 4 FPK took a 4 x 5 inch exposure on size 123 rollfilm. It was the largest of the popular 'Folding Pocket Kodak' models which were first offered in 1898.
